In the wake of three prisoner suicides at Guantanamo, reporters for three newspapers were ordered by the office of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to leave the naval base. Two had gone to the island prison to cover tribunals; a third was profiling an officer assigned there. All were present when the suicides occurred. A Pentagon spokesman said the order to leave was not related to stories they wrote about the suicides but rather a concern about fairness to other journalists not being allowed to visit the island prison.
