As Dave Barry used to write, we’re not making this up. The legislature in Maine is actually, really, truly considering a bill that would keep from the public information on the criminal background of casino applicants and employees. And it has the support of the new Gambling Control Board. The applicant for a casino in Bangor defends the bill, saying that disclosing criminal and civil litigation histories would discourage potential employees from seeking jobs. We’re not making that up, either. (1/26/04)
