Please Turn Off Your Camera-Phones in the Courtroom

New York’s Office of Court Administration has backed down on its 2004 order prohibiting anyone from taking a cell phone that takes photos into a courtroom. These days, it’s increasingly hard to find a lawyer without a cell phone or a cell phone that doesn’t have a camera feature, a court spokeman noted, adding the ban was creating a serious traffic jam at security check points. The cell devices still can’t be used in New York courtrooms, however, even to talk. ( 1/4/06)
