Police Agencies in Northern California Sued Over Records Access

A California couple sued law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County, alleging they fail to comply with the state’s public records law by charging illegal copying fees, and requiring requesters to provide identifying information and a reason for seeking the information. The suit comes on the heels of a media initiated open records audit which showed only about one-third of departments statewide met all requirements of the law. (2/23/07)
