· Story link
The government, buffeted by widespread criticism for misuse of grand jury subpoena powers, and perhaps sensing an adverse court ruling. dropped its demand that the American Civil Liberties Union turn over all copies of an allegedly secret document that had been anonymously mailed to the organization. The ACLU said the year-old document was potentially more embarrassing than sensitive. It was described as an “information paper” dealing with treatment of treatment of enemy prisoners and prepared by a judge advocate for the 101st Airborne Division. (12/19/06)
