The chair of the House Government Reform Committee, Rep. Henry Waxman, D-CA, asked the national archivist to render a judgment on whether the CIA’s destruction of interrogation session tapes is a violation of the Federal Records Act. Waxman also asked Archivist Allen Weinstein for an update on efforts to get the CIA to improve its record keeping. The National Archives in the past have been critical of the agency’s handling of records and failure to preserve audiovisual documents. (12/12/07)
