California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill designed to tighten the state’s open meetings law. The bill, sponsored by the California Newspaper Publishers Association, would have prohibited board members from using a series of private communications to decide on action taken at subsequent public meetings. The governor called the bill the “wrong solution … to a perceived defect.” (10/9/07)
