The use of secret federal court proceedings has become an issue in the appeal of the conviction of a Columbian drug lord in Miami in 2003. Attorneys for Fabio Ochoa said federal prosecutors used the secret proceedings to hide information on the trial of a key witness against their client. 11th Circuit Appellate Judge Rosemary Barkett questioned who authorized the secrecy. “I’ve never heard of such a thing.” (11/22/04)
