Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-VT, noted the 42nd anniversary of the Freedom of Information Act in a speech on the Senate floor, urging colleagues to move forward with funding for an FOIA ombudsman called for in the OPEN Government Act that passed Congress and was signed by the President last December. “Establishing a fully funded OGIS is essential to reversing the troubling trend of the last 7 years towards lax FOIA compliance and excessive Government secrecy, “ he said.
