A bill that would require the web posting of any inspector general’s report within three days of its release under the Freedom of Information Act has been filed in the Senate by Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), a former state auditor. S 2324, the Inspector General’s Reform Act, also requires that every federal agency link from their homepage to the website of their IG office and mandates that Congress be notified 30 days before the dismissal of any inspector general to insure that “no IG will be removed for the wrong reason,” Sen. McCaskill said. Sens. Susan Collins, R-ME, Joseph Lieberman, I-CT, and Tom Coburn, R-OK, are co-sponsors. (11/9/07)
