Senate Judiciary Committee Will Explore Spying-Data Mining Links

The Senate Judiciary Committee will shortly take a look at the National Security Agency’s domestic spying program, trying to understand how the agency that President Bush authorized to conduct warrantless wiretaps is using state-of-the-art technology to both collect and mine information. The National Journal reports that the most critical questioning may deal with the data mining techniques. It also says that says that sharing of information with the FBI may go beyond standing protocols aimed at preventing the co-mingling of intelligence and law enforcement operations. (1/23/06)
