The Senate sponsors of a bill to improve the workings of the Freedom of Information Act have written the attorney general and the director of the Office of Management and Budget urging them to use the President’s Executive Order on FOIA to set uniform performance reporting standards, establish core guidelines and responsibilities for FOIA Officers, and utilize technology to improve service to information requesters. “As we approach the 40th anniversary of FOIA, the speed and urgency with which several agencies approach FOIA is sorely lacking,” Sens. John Cornyn, R-TX, and Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. wrote. (4/4/06)
