SF Chronicle Reporters Subpoenaed in BALCO Probe

Two San Francisco Chronicle reporters were subpoenaed by a federal grand jury investigating leaks of prior grand jury testimony by baseball star Barry Bonds and other athletes and the panel’s investigation of their alleged steroid supplier, BALCO. Said the Chronicle’s Editor Phil Bronstein in response, “The public was well served by that reporting, which sparked a national discussion and debate about steroid use in sports and ultimately led to the enactment of stricter steroid policies by Major League Baseball.” (5/8/05)
