Rep. Christopher Shays. R-CT., introduced a bill (H.R. 5112) to prevent the administration from using these state secrets privilege to end a case brought by a whistleblower. It requires the court to rule in favor of a whistleblower ‘s claim if the government tries to use the privilege to halt the lawsuit. The Administration used the privilege to block a lawsuit brought by Sibel Edmonds, an ex-translator for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (7/12/06)
