A state shield law passed a committee in the Texas Legislature on Monday, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.

House bill 670 was approved 7 to 1 by the House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee meeting. A companion bill, Senate bill 915, has also been introduced. The bills are known as the Free Flow of Information Act and would provide a qualified reporter’s privilege.

Texas lawmakers have introduced but ultimately not passed a shield law in each of the past three legislative sessions.
