South Dakota officials have refused to provide the Argus Leader with a list of all employees and their salaries, saying compiling the list of 14,000 would create too much work. Some lawmakers have questioned why the state administration is being so secretive but a spokesman for the governor responded that the information is all available on request. “It’s as simple as taking a name and requesting it.” (6/19/07)
