The military justice system is highly secretive, with the public having little opportunity to learn of criminal hearings conducted by military courts, which largely operate without dockets, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press reported after a yearlong study. “Unfortunately, in this regard, members of the armed services have fewer rights than those granted to criminal defendants in civilian courts” said Reporters Committee Executive Director Lucy Dalglish.
