Tennessee Legislator Suggests Open Meeting Via the Internet

A state representative in Tennessee wants to use technology to make it easier for public officials to “meet” by e-mail without violating the open meetings law. Rep. Bill Dunn, R-Knoxville, said he’s writing a bill that will all elected bodies to set up websites through which they can instance message each other, with the e-conversations available to the public and the media. He said this would make it easier for the elected officials to discuss issues and easier for the public to know what was being discussed. (10/31/07)
