Tennessee Panel Recommends a Series of Open Government Changes

A legislative panel exploring changes in Tennessee’s open government laws will send a “mixed bag” of recommendations to the legislature for action in 2008. The panel recommended increasing to three the number of board members who must be present to constitute a meeting subject to the open meetings law; giving officials a four day limit to produce requested public records; creating an open government ombudsman,  and allowing citizens who sue over access issues to recover legal fees.   (12/3/07)
