Texas Land Agency Agrees to Make Public Records on Energy Deal

The Galveston Daily News and the Texas General Land Office have settled the newspaper’s suite seeking monthly reports on natural gas deliveries and other documents. The newspaper filed its lawsuit in June claiming that the land office had been stonewalling its requests for public records related to the State Power Program. The newspaper has published a series of articles and editorials examining the State Power Program, a partnership in which Reliant Energy converts natural gas provided by the land office into electricity that is then sold to public agency customers, such as cities and schools.
