Michigan politicians are raising millions of dollars from corporations, unions and wealthy individuals for favorite causes, and not revealing who gave or how much, the Detroit Free Press reported. The Free Press said it found more than 50 tax-exempt charities/education funds tied to current and former office holders. It noted that the fund raising is legal but does raise questions because the donors can curry favor by supporting the office holders’ favored charities. (7/23/07)
