The government’s top Freedom of Information Act officer announced his retirement at a party to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his office. Daniel J. Metcalfe, who has directed or co-directed the Office of Information and Privacy since it was opened in 1981, told partygoers only that he wants to teach law. Metcalfe, 54, did not respond to a request for comment from Cox Newspapers, which first reported his retirement announcement. (11/3/06)
