Television reporter Jim Taricani was found guilty of contempt by a Chief U.S. Judge Ernest C. Torres for refusing to disclose who gave him a grand jury tape of an aide to former Providence, R.I. mayor Vincent “Buddy” Cianci accepting a bribe. He’ll be sentenced Dec. 9. His station, WJAR-TV, and NBC have already paid $85,000 in fines on his behalf. “This assault on journalistic freedom exacts a high price,” Cianci said. (11/19/04) (11/19/04)
