Virginia Panel Backs Sealing of Concealed Weapons Records

Virginia’s Freedom of Information Advisory Council endorsed proposed legislation that would deny the public access to records on concealed weapons permit holders. The list of permit holders had been public record until last March when the Roanoke Times published a column encouraging people to review the list and then provided a link to a database containing the list. There was a sharp reaction from gun owners, leading state police to stop releasing the information.   (12/4/07)
