Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire signed into law two bills to increase the free flow of information. One provides an absolute privilege for reporters from testifying in court about their confidential sources, similar to that granted attorneys, the clergy, police officers and spouses. The second is a “sunshine” law under which the state will review some 300 existing exemptions to the public records law. (4/30/07)
