The Washington legislature approved a bill creating a panel to review the 300-plus exemptions to the state’s open records law and recommend fixes. “Over time, our state’s open public records act — which originally was one of the best laws of its kind — has been steadily eroded,” Attorney General Rob McKenna, who suggested the review. “This committee will be in a position to reverse decades of erosion.” (4/18/07)
