The Washington state Senate overwhelmingly passed a reporter-source shield bill. The vote was 41-7. The bill would would grant reporters absolute privilege for protecting confidential sources – the same exemption from testifying in court that is granted to spouses, attorneys, clergy and police officers. The House unanimously passed a similar measure earlier. Leaders will decide which bill will go to Gov. Chris Gregoire for signature. (3/9/07)
