You won’t find the most current usage of “rendition” in your dictionary and you won’t find its cost in the federal budget. But it’s not cheap, The Chicago Tribune reports in tracking the rendering of Abu Omar to Egypt. Some of the CIA agents who plucked Omar off the streets in Milan stayed in $588-a-night hotel rooms. In all, the 40 agents involved in this rendition spent at least $158,000 on hotels alone. Maybe the budget total is more than the $40 billion figure leaked earlier this year. (12/28/05)
