The failure of two small towns to follow New York’s open meetings law prompted a judge to invalidate their approval of a multi-million dollar wind turbine project , putting the joint effort in jeopardy. Supreme Court Justice Donald Greenwood also ordered the towns of Warren and Stark in Herkimer County to pay legal fees incurred by the project’s opponents. Justice Greenwood said the law is designed “to prevent municipal governments from debating and deciding in private what they are required to debate and decide in public.” (12/14/07)
