Wisconsin’s attorney general has told police across the state that driver identification information compiled in the state records system is not public record. The new advisory comes in the wake of a court decision fining a police department for disclosing a woman’s address to an ex-husband who had been harassing her. It says the federal Drivers Privacy Protection Act restricts access to personal information held by state departments of motor vehicles. (10/24/07)
