A dozen attorneys general have asked the Environmental Protection Agency to withdraw a proposed regulation that reduces the amount of information available to the public on toxic chemicals released into the atmosphere, ground water and the soil by industry. The EPA regulation was a response to industry complaints that the reporting paperwork was burdensome. Separately, the EPA shifted the reporting requirement from annual to every other year. Comments objecting to the change have also been filed by the Society of Environmental Journalists. CJOG and seven of its member organizations sent a letter of support. (1/13/06)
