Federal prosecutors decided in mid-August not to pursue charges against a WTTG-TV television reporter and cameraman who police said entered a crime scene and removed photographs of the victims, according to The Washington Post.

The Post reported that the journalists were questioned by police after officials saw footage on WTTG’s news program that was taken inside a home where a woman and her son were killed in a fire, which police considered a crime scene because of suspected arson.

A police supervisor told the newspaper that reporter Will Thomas admitted during questioning that he and the photographer entered the apartment, found a photo album, and took two photographs that were used on the news broadcast. The photographs were later turned over to the police.

The Post reported that Thomas said he had been instructed by station management not to talk about the incident, and that a spokesperson for the Fox-owned station did not respond to the Post’s calls.
