UPDATE

05/04/98

In late April the U.S. Supreme Court decided not to hear an appeal from the publisher of ‘Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors.’ Paladin Press asked the Supreme Court to review the decision of the federal appeals court in Richmond (4th Cir.), which held that the First Amendment did not bar a wrongful death suit filed against the publisher by relatives of victims murdered by a man who had read the book.

The Supreme Court’s denial of the publisher’s request for consideration lets the decision of the appeals court stand and returns the case to a federal District Court in Greenbelt for trial.

(Rice v. Paladin; Media Counsel: Lee Levine, Washington, D.C.)
