Editor sues police over arrest

Roberto Lima, editor of the Brazilian (N.J.) Voice, filed suit against the Newark police department on Tuesday, charging that police violated his constitutional right to free speech and the state’s shield law. 

The suit stems from an incident in September when Lima notified police that a Voice photographer found a dead body. According to the suit, police arrived on the scene, handcuffed Lima to a bench and demanded that he turn over all of the photographs taken by his staff. When Lima refused, police arrested him.  Lima now seeks unspecified monetary damages.
