U.S. refuses to renew Cuban reporters' visas

The U.S. State Department has declined to renew visas for two veteran Cuban journalists who have covered the United Nations in New York since 2005, the Committee to Protect Journalists reported.  

The journalists, Ilsa Rodriguez Santana and Tomas Anael Granados Jimenez, a husband-and -wife team who write for Cuba’s Prensa Latina news agency, told CPJ the U.S. authorities cited a segment of the Immigration and Nationality Act allowing denial of entry to “any person or group considered prejudicial to the interests of the United States.”  

Over the years, the journalists have reported in countries including Cuba, India, Zimbabwe, and China, as well as the United States. CPJ is pushing the State Department to clarify its reasons for shutting them out of the U.S. now.
