Alito Argued for Allowing Cameras in Court

Newly confirmed Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Jr rigorously avoid sharing a personal point of view on most controversial issues that the court might confront, but not on one. He allowed, in response to a question from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-PA, that he had once argued in deliberations of his 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel that cameras should be allowed in the courtroom. He was in the minority and the 3rd Circuit did approve alter the longstanding ban. (1/18/06)
