Appeals Court Won’t Step Into Cameras Dispute

The Virginia Court of Appeals rejected a motion by three Richmond news organizations to permit cameras during a high profile murder trial about to get underway. The court said it lacks jurisdiction to rule on the trial court’s restriction against spot news photo coverage. Both CBS and Court TV will have cameras in the courtroom but under a guarantee to make none of the footage available to the public until there is a verdict. (2/18/05)
