CIA, GOP Leaders Want Secret Prison Leak Investigated

The CIA asked the Justice Department to launch a criminal investigation of a leak behind a Washington Post article reporting the agency was running a secret prison network in Eastern Europe and elsewhere to question terrorism suspects. And Republican leaders in each house asked their intelligence committees to investigate whether there had been an unauthorized release of classified information. There was no call for an investigation of the network itself. The Senate also rejected a Democratic demand for an investigation into claims of abuse of detainees. (11/9/05)
