Federal judge Todd Campbell ruled that the Memphis Commercial Appeal cannot get the transcripts of wiretapped conversations involving former State Sen. John Ford that were made as part of a public corruption investigation. The prosecutor said the tapes include ” matters that can be of an embarrassing nature, possibly scandalous, to third parties who haven’t been charged.” Judge Campbell said he was concerned about “some unnecessarily being exposed to ridicule.” (10/18/07)
