The director of the Congressional Research Service defends the policy of not disseminating the reports to the public in a report obtained by Secrecy News. Daniel Mulhjollan said there is a risk in putting CRS between the Congress and the public and that overtime public release could change the focus of the reports. Secrecy News called the arguments “singularly unpersuasive.” (5/15/07)
