The New Mexico Department of Public Safety won’t release e-mails of a former state police chief despite an attorney general’s opinion that they are public record. The department says releasing the emails constitutes illegal search and seizure. The AG’s office says that email are public; and the state’s written policy on information technology says anyone using the email system “shall have no expectation of privacy.” (4/05/06).
