A federal judge closed the perfect legal loop in deciding the public cannot see the arguments American-born Taliban soldier John Walker Lindh put forward in an effort to shorten his 20-year prison sentence. U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska said the Associated Press hadn’t shown the public interest in disclosure outweighs Lindh’s privacy interests. And Lindh, by court order, can’t waive those rights, which Justice Department prosecutors are claiming on his behalf. (3/9/07)
