Asked by the Senate Judiciary Committee under what law it was proceeding, the FBI replied that it has abandoned its effort to obtain the files of the late investigative reporter Jack Anderson. The FBI had told Anderson’s family it wanted the records because the files might contain classified information. Anderson’s family said it will now go ahead with plans to turn over all the documents to George Washington University for archiving and scholarly research. (1/4/07)
