A federal Freedom of Information Act request by a Canadian news service produced 600 pages of FBI documents on an effort by a Canadian crime boss to con the agency and win a reduction of a 15-year U.S. prison sentence. Instead, the records show, he fooled his own Mafia associates, who put a contract on his life in the belief he was a snitch. (10/9/07)
