Records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show that Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales had received contradictory reports even as he testified before Congress that “there has not been one verified case of civil liberties abuse” by the FBI under the USA Patriot Act. The Washington Post said the newly disclosed records show Gonzales had been sent at least six reports in the three months prior to his testimony which outlined abuses of authority by agents.
