Illinois

The state high school association said in March that it owns media images taken at its events and can restrict the use of such images, according to the National Press Photographers Association. The photographers are encouraging the group to give the media and contracted association photographers equal privileges, but the situation remains unsettled.

Iowa

Newspapers noticed that credentials for the Iowa High School Athletic Association stated that only its contracted company is authorized to sell photos on a Web site. After an April 6 meeting with media organizations, however, the association corrected the statement and said it did not apply to accredited newspapers and their affiliated Web sites, according to attorney Mike Giudicessi. —MA
