Kansas has launched a three year, $40 million project to make its financial records easy to search online. Lawmakers built the increased public access requirements into a required upgrade of the state’s electronic records system. And at least one lawmaker thinks it will save the state money. Rep. Jim Morrison said he expects citizens to uncover waste and fraud by noticing small details, such as a high volume of transactions at unlikely locations. (5/28/07)
