An appellate court in Louisiana rejected a request of Gannett newspapers in the state to release tapes of emergency calls for assistance to the late Secretary of State Fox McKeithen, who fell outside his home Feb. 17. The court said the tapes were protected under the family’s medical privacy rights. The papers argued unsuccessfully that the calls were about transportation to a hospital and had nothing to do with medical issues. (12/27/05)
