Market Analyst Sues SEC To Obtain Its Investigation Data

A market analyst who uses Freedom of Information Act requests as a primary information resource has sued the Securities and Exchange Commission over its refusal to provide documents on publicly-owned companies it may be investigating. John P. Gavin, who founded SEC Insight six years ago, said the S.E.C. has increasingly withholding information it once disclosed. The SEC says it wants to complete investigations of firms before releasing information that could have an impact on the market. (5/30/06)
