Message Conscious Georgia DOT Cuts off Direct Reporter Access

Georgia’s Department of Transportation is now barring direct reporter access to department heads and other employees and funneling all contacts to the agency’s 17 public information spokespersons. The department has also removed e-mail addresses from the contacts page on its website. Commissioner Harold Linnenkohn made no bones about the message control intent of the new policy: “We get the correct message, we get a consistent message, and we get a timely message.”
